Process for a U of Utah student, staff or faculty member to use EMSAL (Nanofab services).
A. You want Nanofab EMSAL staff to analyze materials and data for you
- Submit a work authorization form:
University of Utah Work Authorization Form - If you know which instrument(s) you need our staff to run for you, contact the appropriate staff member to schedule a time to bring your materials in and have it measured:

Each instrument link has a webpage with the staff member to contact for that instrument - If you don’t know what instrument you need for your measurement, contact the EMSAL lab manager:

B. You want to be trained to use instrument(s) in the Nanofab EMSAL
- Submit a work authorization form for each student who is to be trained:

Brian Van Devener (van-devener@utah.edu) - If, and only if, you will need to use any of the following Xray producing instruments: NanoCT, SAXS, XPS, XRD, XRF, you must complete the University Radiation Safety training. Note this step is only required if you will be trained on NanoCT, SAXS, XPS, XRD, XRD.

EHS RSO Analytical X-ray Training - Once you are trained, and has an account created from the work authorization form (see step 1.), then you can access the reservation calendar for instruments to reserve time on the instruments they are trained on.
